Denaie Swasey serves as Galen University’s Environmental Science Coordinator and Assistant Professor. She holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Law from the University of the South Pacific.

Prior to joining Galen, Ms. Swasey worked extensively across both the public and private sectors in the field of environmental management. Her experience includes collaboration with key national and international institutions such as the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Belize Forest Department, National Climate Change Office (NCCO), National Biodiversity Office (NBIO), the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT), and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

For over three years, Ms. Swasey served as Climate Change Technical Officer and Readiness Project Manager at PACT. Within PACT’s Climate Finance Portfolio, she led the development of climate mitigation and adaptation concepts and managed projects funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Adaptation Fund (AF). She also served as Project Coordinator for the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) GCF Readiness Project, implemented by the CDB.

In 2018, prior to her tenure at PACT, Ms. Swasey spearheaded the development of Belize’s Sixth National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) for the 2014–2018 reporting period.

Currently, she is leading the development of Galen University’s Climate Change Education Program, aimed at strengthening national adaptive capacity and environmental resilience.

Ms. Swasey also serves as Galen University’s Focal Point for national initiatives related to Climate Change, Biodiversity Management, Marine Conservation, and Forestry.
