About Belize

Belize, formerly British Honduras, became an independent nation  in 1981. This lovely country is nestled in the heart of Central America and the Caribbean. Belize is bordered by Mexico to the north, south and west by Guatemala and the Caribbean Sea to the east. It is approximately 8,866 square miles in size and has a population of just over 335,000 people.

Well-known for its tropical features , Belize is home to the second largest barrier reef in the world, ancient Mayan archaeological sites, the number one scuba diving destination, pristine tropical rainforests and waters, exotic wildlife and a culturally diverse population. Belize is a very unique country located in a geographical region that offers an abundantly rewarding living experiences combined with a rich history. Belize is the only English speaking country in Central Americaa, and is a democratic nation operating under the British parliamentary system. Belize is also a member of the British Commonwealth and of the United Nations. For a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and multi-ethnic experience, Belize is the right place to be!


Our History

Founded in September 2003, Galen University was established as Belize’s first independent university, offerings degree programs in Accounting, Anthropology, Business Administration, Computer Science, Economics, Environment Science, Entrepreneurship, Criminal Justice, Social Science and Marketing. Over the past fourteen years,systemic program expansion has allowed Galen to offer a range of undergraduate and graduate degrees. Degree programs are offered in a ariety of formats, including traditional, campus-based classes, online course delivery, or hybrids of these designed to suit individual student needs

As an independent university chartered by the Government of Belize, Galen has  achieved a reputation of educational excellence serving not only the nation’s needs but also the needs of the global university population.

Galen University is committed to providing an exciting and stimulating learning environment, innovative and supportive teaching, scholarship, and active service to the community – with a unique focus on “sustainable development” throughout our courses, programs, and service.


Our Campuses

Our main campus is located at Mile 62.5 George Price Highway, Central Farm, Cayo District. At our main campus, we offer various undergraduate programs in the disciplines of business, arts, education and sciences. Our main campus in the beautiful Cayo District is surrounded by a diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna, providing a perfect place to learn and grow among our dynamic mix of global students and faculty.

Additional branch campuses are located in Punta Gorda, Belmopan, Belize City and Orange Walk. Galen satellite centers are located in Corozal, San Pedro, Caye Caulker, Dangriga and Independence. These satellite centers provide a space for our students to pursue degrees in one of our hybrid/online technologically driven programs. At our campus in the capital, Belmopan, we offer our Graduate Programs in the Schools of  Business, Science and  Education and various hybrid/online undergraduate programs.

Office of Student Affairs

The Office of Student Affairs has created an environment that champions student support beyond the classroom. Student Affairs provides quality programs and services to students and the greater campus community. These programs and services are designed to enlighten, enrich and empower students to achieve their greatest potential in the pursuit of their academic and personal development.

The Office's Objectives
  • Provide leadership development focusing on leadership with integrity, community involvement, high academic achievement and concern for sustainable living;
  • Promote academic scholarship through student support and retention services;
  • Provide opportunities for student development through educational workshops, service learning and social activities;
  • Provide life skills resources beyond the classroom in the areas of career development and counseling services
