Introduction to basic concepts of designing a database to support applications and platforms built in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Database types are investigated and evaluated including flat files, hierarchical and object oriented. Students learn to translate the conceptual spatial model into a physical implementation that is specific to a GIS product.
