Explore the many genres (both fiction and nonfiction) and formats (e.g. picture books, magazines, and media) of children’s literature that are appropriate for use in elementary classrooms. Students learn how to evaluate a variety of texts from a variety of cultures and ethnic traditions (including Belize’s) for literary and visual quality and use these texts to support their students’ understandings of themselves and the world around them. Special attention is given to motivating students to become lifelong readers.
