| *ANTH-320 ANTHROPOLOGY OF TOURISM |
|
(3 CREDITS)
Travel and tourism are viewed using anthropological theories and methods. Both hosts and guests are examined, including a consideration of the attitudes, beliefs, motivations, and values of travelers. From the host’s perspective, why do specific peoples and cultures either encourage or discourage the development of a tourist industry? Anthropological perspectives will be used to explore how Native, indigenous, and rural peoples are impacted by tourism as well as how negative impacts can be anticipated and mitigated. Anthropological perspectives will also be used to explore ceremonial and sacred aspects to travel and tourism. |
