By some standards tourism is the largest industry in the world and the primary engine for growth and prosperity for much of the developing world. The course will trace the history of tourism, motivations for travel and how the industry has evolved over the years. Emphasis will be placed on the macroeconomic benefits the industry offers as well as the potential negative impacts that can come with a dependence on the tourism industry.
