Dr. Werner came to Galen through the university's relationship with the Petters Research Institute. Dr. Werner is a visiting professor at Duke University, along with Dr. Petters, in Durham, North Carolina, USA. His lecture reviewed a variety of calendars the Maya used. Dr. Werner explained how the Maya dates are converted to western calendars, using an example of the termination of the current Maya epic on December 21, 2012. He also referred to the ancient Maya book called the Dresden Codex, which shows the cycles of the planet Venus and the calculations the Maya used to record its path through the heavens as the Morning Star and the Evening Star.
