How To Get To Galen University

From The Airport:

Private Taxi:

A private taxi can take you from the airport to Galen University. This may seem costly at around $200 US dollars, but may seem worth it, as you can sit back, relax, and take in the view of beautiful Belize.

Alternatively, there are a dozen or so vehicle rental companies that will rent a vehicle; reservations will ensure availability. Please note the roads can be wet and slick at times so driving with care and a seatbelt is always advised.

In a car:

Exit the Airport on the only road out.
Turn left at the T junction with the Northern Highway; see signs for “Mexico, Corozal." WATCH for marked and unmarked speed bumps on all highways!
Travel about 15 minutes; begin to recognize that Belize is a developing country. Pass through Ladyville Village and watch for a cellphone tower on the left.
Turn left just before a police checkpoint and a sign advertising the Baboon Sanctuary. Stay on this road through the countryside for 30 minutes or so. You will pass signs to Barrel Boom and cross the Belize River. Watch for another cell tower.
At the roundabout, go right, take the first exit, on to the Western Highway.
Follow this highway for about an hour, passing Belmopan, our Capital, on the left. The signpost there will show 23 miles to San Ignacio. Cross a narrow two lane bridge. Continue along the Western Highway.
Galen University is located between miles 62 and 63, just after a village called Georgeville, You will recognize Georgeville by the signs for Caracol and The Mountain Pine Ridge on a road off to the left. You will see us on the right hand side, about a 5 minute drive later.

By bus:

Take a taxi to the bus depot in Belize City. From there, catch a bus to San Ignacio. Taxi fares should be posted at the airport. At the Bus Station take a bus going west, whose ultimate destination is San Ignacio or Benque Viejo. Tell the driver your destination, and the bus will stop on the highway in front of Galen University.

From San Ignacio to Galen University:

In a car:

Cross the Macal River, just past the brightly colored Police Station and the town circle, via the Hawkesworth Bridge (the big orange, suspension bridge).

Follow the highway through of Santa Elena, WATCH for unmarked speed bumps, out past the Red Creek Police checkpoint.

Stay on the highway through Esperanza Village and into the flat area with orange groves, called Central Farm. Look for the CARDI and the Taiwan Technical Mission signs on the left.

The entrance to Galen University is on the left, past the St. Barnabas Primary School, and a sign for the University of Belize. There are two entrances into the campus so if you miss the first left turn, take the second one, where our sign is located.

By bus:

Go to the center of town to the bus depot, where 3 streets intersect, and catch any bus marked Belize City. Tell the driver to stop at Galen University. There are several bus lines. This is the least expensive transportation to the University unless you are on the Galen Bus route and that is free!

By taxi:

Taxi associations are located through the center of town and can also be found roaming for fares. Any taxi will deliver passengers to Galen University.
