What you may consider basic services at home are not to be taken for granted here. Internet and telephone services are good when you can find connections and cell towers. For the internet, Galen has wireless connectivity, and its availability and power depend on demand. There are plenty of internet cafes in San Ignacio which cost by the hour. Student housing has wireless internet connections. The local provider blocks some services like Skype and video through the common email carriers. Local cell phones are mostly "pay as you go" and work where there are towers. This is a developing country so there are places that are still without electric and water.
