Human wildlife conflict is a well known issue worldwide and throughout human history. It ranges from the nuisance (eg an animal nesting in human living space) to potentially life-threatening emergencies (eg large predators). With increasing human populations and decreasing wildlife habitat human-wildlife conflict is on the rise. Common human wildlife conflicts in Belize are caused for example by crocs (usually caused by humans feeding them), owls (due to open access to house attics), opossums, raccoons (mostly attracted by uncontained trash), skunks, rodents and wild cats (predation on lifestock). This site is designated to sharing information on possible strategies and solutions for human wildlife conflict. When possible BWCN advocates non-lethal solutions. Please feel free to upload relevant information and share discussions. Do not hesitate to send a message to our experts for advice (it will take some time to fill this site with the relevant information) |
